During the Middle Ages, the city was ruled by the Venetians and was an important center of art and culture. Its preserved old town, known for its mix of Renaissance, baroque, and Romanesque buildings, lies on a small island connected to the mainland and the island of Čiovo by bridges. Today, Trogir is a popular tourist destination, known for its narrow streets, beautiful architecture, and vibrant nightlife. Its UNESCO World Heritage Site status means that it is also home to many cultural sites, including the Cathedral of St. Lawrence from the 12th century is one of the most important cultural monuments of Trogir. The portal of the western door, made by master Radovan, is one of the most impressive parts of the cathedral.
