Salona - Ancient Town Remainings

Salona was an ancient city located on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea in the central Dalmatian region of modern Croatia. It was the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia.

 

Salona was an ancient city located on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea in the central Dalmatian region of modern Croatia. It was the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia. The city was founded as early as the 3rd century BC by a group of Illyrian tribes, and it flourished as a major commercial and cultural center under the Romans. It was home to a large population of up to 60,000 people at its peak, during the reign of emperor Diocletian in the late 3rd century AD. The city was surrounded by a wall and was filled with public buildings, temples, baths, and an amphitheater.
